An Investigation in Decision Making and Destination Choice Incorporating Place Meaning and Social Network Influences
The work in this project (while affiliated with the University of California, Santa Barbara) explores the influence of place attitudes and social networks in the decision making process. The study involves a web-based survey of approximately 700 persons. Duties included survey design/administration, data analysis and reports. Results of the project are described in the Kate Deutsch-Burgner's dissertation and several publications.
Multiday GPS Travel Behavior Data for Travel Analysis
Using data housed in the Transportation Secure Data Center, this research explores the 2012/2013 California Household Travel Survey GPS data to understand the multiday variation in destination choice. Potential path areas and travel behavior are examined across days and across respondents to assess the role of habit and repetition across days.
Development of Next Generation Agent-based Simulation
The work conducted by Kate (while affiliated with UCSB) in this project was a portion of the project involving exploring innovative methods of data collection. Tasks related to this portion of the project included comparison studies of GPS tracking and smartphone based survey methods, including examination into data fusion of multi-sensor devices. Sensors within smartphone hardward examined were GPS, cell phone tower positioning, wifi positioning and accelerometers.
The Built Environment, Place Meaning and Behavior
This project involves the collection of physical aspects of the built environment, and correlation of these aspects to place meaning, emotional attachment and human interaction with the transportation systems. The work in this project is a continuation of previously conducted work in destination choice and decision making.
